On our second day in Rome we spent most of out time in Vatican City. We had a wonderful tour of the Vatican Museum, where we saw the amazing Map of the World hallway, ancient Roman statues of Julius Caesar and the Discus Thrower, and Nero’s bathtub. We viewed the Sistine Chapel (no photographs allowed) and spent a long while in St. Peter’s Basilica. The Sistine Chapel is awe-inspiring and St. Peter’s is massive in size and beauty. Michaelangelo’s Pieta can be seen here as well as the beautiful alter canopy and so much more. The Swiss Guard was ever present protecting these treasures.
