Burano is a beautiful island just across the lagoon from Venice. It is believed to be the first of the islands settled when the original inhabitants left the mainland to escape invaders. Burano is less crowded, brightly colored, slower paced and a great place to shop for the famous Burano lace made on the island for centuries. They are also known for their Burano biscuits as seen in the picture above. They are like shortbread cookies but with wonderful flavors and shapes. The current inhabitants of the island take pride in their village and maintain their homes in bright colors that shine hot in the Italian sun.
